FileFone is a phone for sending and receiving files over the internet. It allows you to "ring up" another FileFone user by his IP address to send a file. FileFone:
Works peer-to-peer with no central server of any kind
Has independent send and receive lines, allowing you to receive a file while sending one
Is extremely simple to set up and run
Allows you to accept or reject incoming transfers
Can receive files unattended
Maintains a list of favourite destinations
Has configurable text, allowing easy translation or customisation
Resumes broken transfers
Is available for Mac and PC and works between them
Allows extensive customisation of the user interface ( skins )
Stores a retry list of any failed or rejected transfers
Has attractive inbuilt help facilities
This is the first public beta. Suggestions and problem reports would be very welcome.
FileFone is available for the Mac and for the PC. It is shareware, priced at $20 for a single user license. An introductory special Correspondent offer buys two licenses for $30, allowing you to set up a friend with FileFone at a substantial discount.

Program Appearance
The appearance of FileFone may be customised in many ways. You may alter the window layout, the window appearance, the ring tone, and the program text. To make this easier, we have prepared Appearance Kits that include a sample different layout, some different ring tones, some tiling backgrounds, instructions and the necessary files for you to have some fun with FileFone's looks. These Kits are separate from the main program archive, and are available for download in the Download section below.
Note that you can also translate the program text using the Appearance Kits.
A Note about IP Addresses
If you have a normal internet connection please ignore the following!
Some users have reported issues relating to internal IP addresses. FileFone merely tells you the reported IP address as per your computer's TCP/IP drivers - if, through some fancy routing, this is not the IP address you wish to use, then inform the remote FileFone user of whatever the correct IP address is. It should not matter for file transmissions that FileFone reports the "wrong" address - it still will accept incoming connections.
Be aware though that, for FileFone to work for you, your computer must be addressable by the remote user ie: the connection request from the remote party must be able to be routed to your computer. For example, if you have a NAT router, your computer must be in the "DMZ", I believe it is called.
