1.1 What is it - Description

SockeToome is a send based internet file transfer program. It is shareware ( US$20 ).

1.2 Why is it - Benefits

People are always sending files to one another over the internet, and there are many ways of doing this. One may upload to a server so that your associate can download - this involves a double transmission and a notification. One may attach a file to an email - but many mailboxes have limited sizes, and email can be very unreliable. On IRC you can DCC, but you both have to be online, and DCC appears to ignore the reliability of TCP/IP, implementing its own protocol that is very slow. Of course, you can download files, but what if you want to send files rather than receive them?

Privacy has also become a major issue. Several central-server based facilities have been shown to flagrantly violate your privacy, and who knows who might be monitoring your favourite server today?

In many industries there is a constant need to get files to other organisations quickly for further processing. Yes, you can run an FTP server, but this is often a big and complex function outside of your core business.

SockeToome addresses these needs. It is a peer-to-peer send-based file transfer program suitable for individuals and businesses. It is simple to set up and run, communicates directly between users ( avoiding server-watching Big Brothers ), and works at the sender's convenience.

Features and Benefits include:

1.3 Shareware Limitations

The unregistered version is limited to 25 file transfers.

1.4 Other Limitations

None at this time.

1.5 Future Possibilities

Suggestions welcome.
